Personally, I'm not close to a base, but with the Air Force Academy, Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace, Rocky Flats (now closed but was a huge part of our nuclear program and my grandfather and other family members worked there), and NORAD, we are heavily militarized via people that stayed in Colorado after military service, who are active military, and those who are military contractors.
Those twenty somethings I described I would call fairly well educated, generally Caucasian, non-church going, but lacking a true political ideology. They are generally the kind of people that if they vote Democrat, it's because their mom and dad voted Democrat, whose mom and dad voted Democrat, etc. They generally don't care because they have a roof over their heads, enough money to take a vacation, and a few bucks in the bank, too. They're plenty happy, borderline sedated, (actually quite a few take anti-depressants so there could be more to that), and are generally apolitical except for that 6 month period every four years when everyone has an opinion and they all think highly of it.
I would love to run for office, but too many of my extracurricular activities and views are available online; I'm not a viable candidate. Well, maybe for national office I'm not viable, but I could run for state and local and nobody would give a shit. I know a small number of people who said they would gladly donate to a campaign if I ever decided to run, but they aren't people in power. Just paranoid people like me that don't trust The Man.![]()
