    Groves Splits from Warren

18 Comments by Gareth Rees Published on 03-03-2013 02:11 PM
It has been announced that Super Middleweight George Groves has split from promoter Frank Warren and will no longer be on the Rule Britannia card at Wembley Arena on March 16. Groves was due to challenge Mohamed Ali Ndiaye for the vacant European Super Middleweight title but has decided he is not interested in challenging for the EBU title and wants to take a different direction.

Matchroom are expected to announce tomorrow that they have signed Groves after Eddie Hearn said on Friday via Twitter that they will announce a major signing at a press conference at 10:30 am Monday morning. Hearn also said that the fighter in question will be on their Wembley card on March 9.

Surprising that Warren has yet to learn that giving fighters what they want, whether it's in their best interest or not, will keep them from leaving him.

Seems everyone leave Warren eventually because he won't let them step up. He's an idiot.

Done it for years heard Ricky Hatton saying a few weeks back that Warren tried to talk him out of facing Tszyu saying even though Hatton is now the mandatory challenger they can take a different route if he wants

You'd think Warren would eventually back down if he wants to keep his fighters though.

Mix in the fact his promotional company and TV channel are losing money, something will have to change but guys like Warren are stubborn and rarely change their ways

About time Groves left him, Eddie will do him well. He's done a great service with by setting up Boxnation but Frank's still a massive tosser. Doesn't pay his fighters, viciously shits on anyone who dares say anything against him or leave his poor matchmaking. If the WBO didn't put up with his bullshit he'd have no champions. Hopefully Cleverly wises up, used to really like him before his run of shitty opponents

Warren produces about two decent cards a year and this Burns-Vasquez one falling apart is no doubt his own cheap doing.
