Massive applause to Hussey and Haddin for pulling that massive partnership, Aussies weren't looking to crash hot before that.

Poms are a fair bit behind now (~200 odd runs) but the game isn't over. Once the ball has seen a few overs the batters will have an easier time out there. Strauss and Cook just need to see the fresh ball off and make a few runs at it to set up the rest of the batters for a good performance.

Pieterson, Collingwood and Bell can all put up big numbers and partnerships on a good wicket, so there's still a good test match ahead.

Hussey should've been out and between the two of them they could've been out about 8 or 9 times . If Strauss and Cook can get themselves back in tomorrow we're still in it, we just need someone to go on and make a big score because that's what cost us in the first innings.

TBF I think the appeals were fair enough, the first one was close and ended up being umpires call and the second one was out but the DRS doesn't use snicko :wank:. I think a draw is within our grasp but I don't think we'll get enough either because not enough of our batsman make big hundreds.

There's plenty of Aussies in the crowd, the cameras just aren't on them, and they're being quiet. The poms are singing, and all that so the cameras focus on them.

It was a good match, England did a great job to climb back into the match, 1/50x is absolute murder, and then they came out and got Katich for cheap. Game was always going to be a draw, but it's good to see England have a genuine chance to win the Ashes this time around. (Favourites to win by bookies, favoured by 20c).

It's gonna be a good series.

Yeah I agree, it would've been the ultimate humiliation to get 700/1 but I see what Strauss was thinking wanting to give the bowlers a few overs. Unfortunately it ran the risk of Ponting getting a few runs which he did.

England just got the better of the draw in the end, just like in football a team can deserve to win but only get a draw. Obviously in cricket there isn't a set time like 90 minutes that each game will last so some games will only last 3 days before one side wins the game but often the game will go the full five days in which case it has to be a draw because if you played every test until it finished some games would last 7 or 8 days . The draw in the last test at Brisbane was probably a better result for England because of Australia's great record there (they hadn't lost for 22 years there), and also because England finished the test stronger which gives them the momentum for this game...

 I like both of them, they both play for England; I didn't start the childish insults without backing them up . They do have different jobs, although I disagree that Cook has the harder job because he faces the best bowlers - Pietersen has batted much of his career at 5 where he regularly faces the second new ball. You couldn't put Pietersen as an opener and expect him to average 47 but you couldn't expect Cook to bat 4 or 5 and average 45 either.

Cook will likely play more matches, but KP will have the higher average and they'll end up with a similar amount of runs. Cook's had two great matches and everyone's talking him up like God but he was close to losing his place 4 months ago. Pietersen may have become overrated, but it's undisputable that he has a bigger impact on the side than Cook in the 4 years they've both been in the side (hence why opposition sides still see KP as the biggest wicket). In the current era, KP will go down as the best batsman, with Cook a close second and Strauss third (not factoring in his captaincy as we don't know how long he'll be captain for or if Cook will be captain after).

Unsure atm, I was really into Rashid a couple of years ago and thought he could get into the team around about now as an all rounder. He still might because we have no genuine all rounder in the test side but I think now he'll end up playing more one day cricket than test cricket because I'm not sure if he'd take enough wickets or be able to bat at 6 or 7 in tests. I'm sure at some point he'll get his chance though, hopefully he takes it because I love leg spinners.

Swann's the only one in recent times for England that's been able to bowl off spin really well, Tredwell and Udal were :wank::laugh:. I was leading wicket taker for my club side about three years ago bowling leggies, I used to love seeing Warney bowl it and they've always been my favourite type of bowler since.

In the last 4 test matches at the WACA the side batting second has made 300 in the fourth innings :cop:. Hopefully we can bowl them out in the morning session and leave ourselves a target of about 300 which would be gettable, Johnson's inconsistent :cop:.

Agnew made a good point in his blog today, even though they won they're still the ones with a lot of the problems, especially in the batting - Hughes is poor, Ponting out of form, Clarke inconsistent, Steve Smith batting at six :laugh2:. The individual bowling performances from Johnson and Harris won the game, and they did it on the pitch that will be most foreign to England out of any that they'll play on all tour. We just didn't bat well enough in the first innings and paid for it, just like at Headingley in last years Ashes. Melbourne should be slower and more like Adelaide, and Sydney generally spins.
