My opinion on the best changes often but I've settled for Bennie Briscoe at the moment. One of the greatest to have never been World Champion.

Well, depends if I get to include Jersey fighters that fought out of Philly like Joey Giardello and Ike Williams, both guys I gotta rate over Briscoe. But let's leave them out for the moment. Briscoe was maybe the most entertaining and toughest Philadelphia fighter ever, but not the best. Philly guys I rate over Briscoe p4p:

Philadelphia Jack O'Brien

Tommy Loughran

Bernard Hopkins

Lew Tendler

Harold Johnson

Battling Levinsky

Sonny Liston

Joe Frazier

Matthew Saad Muhammad
Georgie Benton

Tim Witherspoon

Jimmy Young

And here's some guys that had potential but didn't realize it:

*Billy Fox

Gypsy Joe Harris

Ivan Robinson

Meldrick Taylor

Billy Fox is starred because...well...yea...:(

I agree with Obama, Briscoe is entertaining but I don't consider him the best. Battling Levinsky is a good shout for one of the P4P Philly fighters.

Philadelphia Jack fought world class fighters from Lightweight to Heavyweight and is considered a top 10 ATG Light Heavyweight by most historians.
