Allen Iverson is close to signing a one-year deal potentially worth as much as $2 million with bonuses to play for Turkish team Besiktas, Yahoo! Sports is reporting.

“We are in very serious negotiations with [Besiktas],” Iverson’s business manager Gary Moore told the website.

One sticking point in negotiations has been Iverson’s reluctance to allow the team to fine him more than 1 percent of a $1.5 million base salary, according to Yahoo! The team wants Iverson to sign the deal by the end of the week.

There have been more lucrative offers for Iverson to play in China this season, but Iverson wants to play in Istanbul.

“Istanbul is beautiful from everything we’ve learned,” Moore said. “It’s not that far from the U.S., and the competition is good which makes it all attractive.”

Interest in Iverson around the NBA is so low, Yahoo! Sports notes, that the former NBA MVP was not even able to get an invitation to training camp.

if this guy could swallow his pride and accept being a role player,he could be a nice piece off the bench for a contender...

instead he has basically been exiled from the NBA and has to finish a hall of fame career playing overseas in high schoolesque gymnasiums...
